| Lee alumnus writes book about Internet addictions
Many of Lee University's alumni
finish college and go on to pursue various careers that take
them to different places around the world. Christian author
and Internet expert Stephen O. Watters is no different.
Stephen, an Internet project manager and research analyst
for Focus
on the Family, recently had a book published entitled
"Real Solutions for Overcoming Internet Addictions." This
book is a part of The Real Solutions Series, which provides
the wisdom and help people need to deal with common,
difficult problems. The book was published by Servant
Publications and is on bookstore shelves now.
"This will be the first book of its kind in the Christian
community to address Internet addictions ranging from online
games, auctions and e-mail, to the larger problems
associated with Internet pornography," said Stephen.
The book is targeted for people concerned that their child,
their college student, their spouse, or themselves are
developing real addictions online -- and are in need of real
solutions. Stephen's book helps to diagnose compulsive
behavior and looks specifically at online shopping and
trading, chat rooms, computer games, gambling, and
sexuality.
"Steve Watters' book is not just informative but necessary,"
said J. Budziszewski at the University of Texas at Austin.
"As the author of a column in an online magazine for
Christian young people, I've been startled by the volume of
e-mail I receive from readers secretly in bondage to
Internet pornography -- an addiction all the more difficult
to break because the 'fix' is just a click away on machines
they can't avoid. For them, porn on the World Wide Web isn't
about 'free speech' but about enslavement, and degradation.
I've wished I had more help for them. With this book, now I
do."
Shortly after moving to Colorado, he and his wife, Candice,
created
Boundless.org, an exclusive online webzine that explores
current topics and worldview issues for college students.
Candice was named editor and Stephen moved on to new web
projects for Focus on the Family in his role as an Internet
Research Analyst. During this time, he launched two websites
--
CitizenLink.org and PureIntamacy.org.
"A lot of the inspiration for Boundless.org came
directly from Lee University and the verse that (Lee
University President) Dr. Paul Conn signed in my Bible of
Ephesians 3:18. This scripture was so ingrained in my Lee
experience that it has become a life verse for things I get
excited about."
Stephen, his wife, and their growing family currently
resides in Monument, Colo., just outside Colorado Springs.
